Alternatively titled On the River, From the River Light Blue depicts a river seen from above. In 1959, Georgia O'Keeffe traveled extensively by plane, and her experience in the air led to numerous aerial views. This painting revisits a composition she used first in the 1916 drawing Blue Lines, although she reversed it in From the River Light Blue, placing the zigzag on the right.
